16th International Conference on Thinking
21-25 January 2013
David Hyerle Master Class
Wellington, New Zealand
As you exit this master course you will have access to the most comprehensive array of visual tools for thinking known across fields from an author, researcher and facilitator who has written far reaching books on the subject of thinking and knowledge cartography. You will have experienced how to use specific tools and how to integrate the tools together for: generating ideas; organizing ideas into concepts; finalizing products for high quality communication and transferring knowledge.

The applications will traverse learning and leadership work, including how to use visual tools for focused, collaborative problem solving. You will be introduced to the first research-based visual language for learning, Thinking Maps®, that has been applied across disciplines from pre-school to corporate training. The design of this course is to scaffold your knowledge of specific tools for thinking for application in your own professional field and for personal use.

Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD)
San Antonio, Texas - March 4-6, 2010
Presented by David Hyerle, Ed.D., founder of Thinking Foundation
and Kimberly Williams, Ph.D., Hobart and William Smith Colleges
Thinking Maps is a common visual language for learning based on eight fundamental cognitive processes. This student-centered model is implemented across prekindergarten—12 schools with significant research-based results. As students independently draw multiple maps on blank pages, teachers effectively engage in bifocal assessment: they see students' content knowledge forming while simultaneously observing how students' underlying thinking processes are developing. Participants will explore how Thinking Maps are used for formative assessment while facilitating students' capacities to self-assess.

Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD)
Anaheim, California - March 17-19, 2007
David Hyerle will be speaking at the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development annual conference. Presentation description: A primary dimension of humanness is our constellation of fundamental thought processes. Unfortunately, cognitive processes are implied within content teaching; thus, students' cognitive and critical-thinking development evolves unmediated in schools. Thinking Maps is a metalinguistic language of eight cognitive patterns taught explicitly to students across whole schools. This presentation will synthesize 20 years of research and practice demonstrating students' improved thinking for lifelong learning, literacy, and content learning through the self-differentiating use of Thinking Maps.
