I. DESCRIPTION of Request for Proposals
Thinking Foundation (TF) invites those in the field of pre-kindergarten to college level education, including teachers, administrators, and researchers, to submit research proposals under this Request for Proposals: Teaching for Thinking and Learning.

The question your research should address is: How do we teach for the systematic development of Students Thinking and Content Learning? Individuals as well as teams and whole schools may submit proposals. We are particularly interested in research investigating how to facilitate thinking in these areas: cognitive and critical thinking skills development using Thinking Maps; dispositions for thinking (e.g. Habits of Mind, a
model by Costa and Kallick); problem solving, metacognition, and critical thinking within and across disciplines. There are no constraints as to the content area learning focus: the most obvious areas of interest are writing process and reading comprehension (literacy), and the major content areas of mathematics, science, history and social studies. Proposals may also address how the development of thinking processes in students influences their performance on the Common Core, PISA and other measures of learning used in other countries around the world.

Requests should be between $250-$2,500 USD.  There will be approximately 10 to 15 grants awarded. The proposed research must directly pertain to TF’s mission. Please consult Thinking Foundation website for information, existing research, and our mission.

Looking Ahead:
There are four forms that you must complete and submit in order to be included in the review of proposals by Thinking Foundation, and possible award of grant monies.

A complete overview with the forms needed for submitting a proposal is available online.

Your final reports-- which may include video production --may be published, whole or in part, on our website and will become part of a growing research base.  We require that researchers ensure that any form of data collection remains confidential and that research subjects have given signed permission for their work if it is to be included in the final report for publication.  Student work or images of students that are submitted to Thinking Foundation for inclusion in the final report must include signed release permissions by a parent or legal guardian.

Grant recipients will be required to submit preliminary and final reports on their research findings and excerpts of these documents may be published on the www.thinkingfoundation.org website.

FYI:  No Funding for Thinking Maps, Inc. resource materials and/or consulting
