Our town, Huntington, has a long and interesting history that dates back more than 345 years. On April 2, 1653, three men from Oyster Bay made a deal with a Matinecock chief to buy the land between Cold Spring and Northport Harbors, reaching from Long Island Sound almost as far as what is now Northern State Parkway. Look at a map of Huntington to get a better understanding of these boundaries.

Huntington is the fifth oldest town on Long Island, and our town has been an important setting for many events throughout Long Island history.

Our town was the birthplace and home of  the poet Walt Whitman.
